St. Petersburg International Legal Forum is an annual international legal conference that was established in 2011 on the initiative of the Ministry of Justice of the Russian Federation and is supported by the President of the Russian Federation. The forum became the largest platform for discussions between politicians, lawyers, economists, and academics representing all major economic and legal systems. ==SPILF 2011== The first St. Petersburg International Legal Forum was hosted at the Mikhailovsky Castle (also known as the Engineer's Castle) on May 19–21, 2011 in St. Petersburg. The forum was attended by more than 700 participants from 35 countries including 15 ministers of justice. Secretary-General of the Council of Europe Thorbjørn Jagland, the Minister of Justice of Vietnam Ha Hung Cuong, Minister of Justice of Slovenia Aleš Zalar, Judge of the Court of Appeal of England and Wales Sir Robin Jacob (retired), European Commissioner for Home Affairs Cecilia Malmström, Secretary-General of the Hague Conference on Private International Law Hans van Loon, and President of the International Bar Association Akira Kawamura were among speakers. The plenary session "Law as an Instrument of Innovative and Secure Development of the Global World" was also attended by the President of Russian Federation Dmitry Medvedev, former Chancellor of Germany Gerhard Schröder and Minister of Justice of Russian Federation Alexander Konovalov.
